The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans has announced that, effective Jan. 1, 2017, Brandy D. Christian has begun service as the Port’s president and chief executive officer following her two-year tenure as its chief operating officer.

Marseilles, France-based CMA CGM today announced a new direct weekly container service to Asia from the Port of New Orleans Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal. Part of the company’s PEX3 service, the inaugural vessel is scheduled to arrive on January 31 for service by terminal operator Ports America.

U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administrator Paul “Chip” Jaenichen visited the Port of Greater Baton Rouge’s container-on-barge operation Tuesday while delivering his personal congratulations on the recent awarding of a $1.75 million grant to the Baton Rouge port and the Port of New Orleans.

The Port of New Orleans topped a half million TEUs (twenty-foot-equivalent units) handled at its Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal for the second year in a row, setting another alltime high. For fiscal year 2016, the Port recorded 532,427 TEUs, up from 528,329 in fiscal year 2015.
The Port of New Orleans will receive the 2016 Outstanding Citizen Diplomat Award from the New Orleans Citizen Diplomacy Council. The annual award honors community organizations dedicated to shaping U.S. foreign relations through citizen diplomacy and face-to-face meetings between professional international visitors and their American counterparts.

The Port of New Orleans and the Port of Greater Baton Rouge will acquire specialized container loading equipment to increase efficiencies to the current container-on-barge shuttle service operated by SEACOR AMH between Baton Rouge and New Orleans with a newly announced grant of $1.75 million from the U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD).

Port of New Orleans Chief Operating Officer Brandy Christian joined Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards in signing a memorandum of understanding with Cuba on Oct. 4 pledging to expand trade and commerce opportunities between Louisiana and the Caribbean nation. The agreement also calls for joint marketing and information sharing efforts to meet those objectives.

Port of New Orleans Grant from EPA Provides Financial Incentives To Approximately 20 Truckers To Replace Older Drayage Trucks

Today, the Port of New Orleans launched its Clean Truck Replacement Incentive Program (Clean TRIP), providing financial incentives for local short-haul truck owners to voluntarily replace approximately 20 Class 8 drayage trucks from model years 1993-2006 with trucks from model year 2012 and newer.
